"Detects what metal detectors cannot. Rejects automatically. Logs everything."
FOTON-XF 4535PNB is a dedicated food X-Ray quality control device for food manufacturers — detecting the full spectrum of physical contaminants including metal, stainless steel, glass, plastic, stone, bone and rubber with high precision in a single inspection pass. Its dual-energy X-Ray technology discriminates between materials that standard single-energy systems cannot differentiate.
The system operates at 0.2 m/s standard (1 m/s optional for high-throughput lines) across a temperature range of 0°C to +40°C — covering fresh product, chilled production environments and ambient packaged lines. It handles both packaged and unpackaged product in single and multi-lane configurations, integrating into existing conveyor systems without structural modification.
Customisable foreign matter classification profiles allow operators to define material detection priorities relevant to their specific production line hazard analysis.
Single-energy X-Ray measures one attenuation value per material. Dual-energy measures two — enabling discrimination between materials of similar density that are invisible to each other on a single-energy image.
Product enters, dual-energy X-Ray images the full depth, AI classifies against customised contaminant profiles, automatic rejection removes non-conforming product. Full event log captured.
Product is fed onto the FOTON-XF conveyor in its production line format — packaged or unpackaged, fresh or frozen, single lane or multi-lane. The system does not require product removal from packaging, product repositioning or special handling.
At 0.2 m/s standard — or 1 m/s in the high-speed configuration — the system integrates into existing conveyor lines without becoming a throughput bottleneck. The 0°C to +40°C operating range covers chilled deboning rooms, ambient packaging halls and all production environments in between.
The dual-energy X-Ray source fires two simultaneous energy levels through the complete product depth — penetrating packaging, ice glaze and product mass. The system measures how each material attenuates at both energy levels, generating a material classification map of the complete product in real time.
This dual-energy signature is the key advantage over both metal detectors and single-energy X-Ray: rubber seals, soft plastic fragments and low-density contaminants that appear identical to food material at a single energy level are differentiated when measured at two.
Any product where the AI classification engine identifies a contaminant matching the configured detection profile triggers the three-stage response automatically: the system generates an alert, the rejection mechanism removes the affected product from the line, and the event is logged with detection type, time and image reference.
The event log satisfies BRC Global Standard Issue 9 Physical Hazard CCP documentation requirements and major UK retailer technical code requirements for foreign body inspection evidence.
FOTON-XF is in active use across food production environments — from chocolate wafer manufacturing to packaged protein lines. These examples illustrate the system's versatility across product types.
FOTON-XF X-Ray imaging detects structural defects and fractures across the complete cross-section of chocolate wafer products — both in the front-facing and reverse layers simultaneously. Missing portions, air voids and foreign material inclusions are all identified in the same inspection pass.
X-Ray penetrates sealed packaging to detect product that has lost structural integrity — identifying degraded, obsolete or incorrectly formed units that would otherwise only be discovered by the consumer. Waste reduction without line disruption.
Designed for any food production environment where multiple contaminant types must be detected — and where single-energy X-Ray or metal detection is not sufficient.
End-of-line inspection of sealed packaging — tray, film, foil and vacuum formats. Detects all contaminant types through packaging without product removal.
Multi-ingredient products carry contaminant risk from every supply chain input. FOTON-XF inspects the assembled final product — detecting contaminants regardless of origin component.
Foreign material detection in fish fillets, shellfish and processed seafood products — including bone fragments in species where FOTON-X dedicated bone detection is not required.
Structural defect and foreign material detection across confectionery, biscuit, wafer and bread product ranges — including through-packaging inspection of sealed retail units.
Tell us your product range, contaminant risk profile and compliance requirements — our UK engineers will configure FOTON-XF for your specific production line hazard analysis.
